The 44th Florida Auctioneers Association Annual Convection was held in Titusville Florida on November 6, 7, and 8th.
Auctioneers arrived from Pensacola to Miami and all the areas in between. Over 48 members attended this year, and overall membership in the Association is up almost 30%.Auctioneers attend the convention for many reasons, some to network with people in the auction industry, others to learn about new trends within the industry, and some to win awards from the industry.
Auctioneers are a talkative group of people and when they get together they can really create some noise. The opportunity to network with fellow auctioneers and people in the auction industry is a major factor for many of the attendees that traveled from all over the State.
The convention had great speakers on new trends in the auction industry and educational programs about changes in the industry. The National Association of Auctioneers Vice President JJ Dower gave a presentation about the changes in the current Real Estate market. Don Lund from the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and Tim McGraph of the Department of Business & Professional Regulations (DBPR) also both presented to the auctioneers.
Also the Association recognizes members that excel within the industry.Neal VanDeRee of VanDeRee Auctions won the bid calling contest and Rich Hart of Baterbys Art Auction Gallery won the most advertising awards.Stan Crooks of Auction Company of America won the prestigious Lewis C. Dell award.
A fresh topic of discussion throughout the auction convention was the recent defeat of the legislative attack on the auction profession.Last legislative session a deregulation bill threated the auctioneers’ license and endangered the public.Dave Caserta the Florida Auctioneer’s Association lobbyist gave a year in review.
The Florida Auctioneers Association represents auctioneers throughout the State of Florida. The Association was created to develop and promote the highest standards of business ethics, equitable trade practices among its members and the auction profession.
